How to Use Online Voter Registration

PA Online Voter Registration

Online voter registration is one way to register to vote. Anyone who is eligible to vote can use the online form. This includes Pennsylvanians who are in the military or temporarily living outside Pennsylvania.

You can use the online voter registration form on your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

The online voter registration form is available in English and Spanish.

You can also use the online voter registration form to change your name, address, political party affiliation, and tell us whether you need assistance to vote.

This video will guide you through the process of registering to vote online.

How to sign the online voter registration form

To register to vote, you must submit a signature. Pennsylvania law allows you to sign electronically instead of by hand. If you register to vote online, you must affirm that you are qualified to vote. Then you can sign the application electronically. The online voter registration application system uses the latest protocols to ensure online data security.

If you have a Pennsylvania driver’s license or PennDOT ID card, you can complete the voter registration process online. Your signature on file at PennDOT will be sent to your county voter registration office and become part of your voter record.

If you do not provide a PennDOT number or if PennDOT cannot verify the information you enter on the form, you must provide a signature to complete the voter registration process. You have three options:

  • Upload a digital image of your signature to submit with the voter registration application form. Take a photograph of your signature in blue or black ink on white paper.
  • Request a signature form from the Department of State. Sign the form and mail it to your county voter registration office.
  • Print, sign, and mail the voter registration application to your county voter registration office.

If you are registering for the first time, or you will be voting for the first time in a precinct, you will have to show an approved form of ID at the polls the first time you vote.

Deadlines for registering to vote online

The voter registration deadline is the same no matter how you register to vote: 15 days before any election.

The online form must be submitted before midnight on the deadline date, no matter when you start filling out the form. If you miss this deadline, you will be informed that your registration will not take effect until the next election.

Track your voter registration

Once you submit your online registration application, you will get an application tracking number. If you provided an email address, you will also get this application tracking number in your email. Use this number to track your voter registration application status through the Find Voter Application Status form.

When you are officially registered, the county voter registration office will mail your voter registration card to your residence. You should receive your card within 14 days with the address of your polling place.

Voter registration drives

Third-party groups can use online voter registration to help voters register.

Although there are other websites that may allow you to download or request a traditional mail-in voter registration form, the online registration process can only be accessed through the official Pennsylvania application.
